Villa Florence is a peaceful retreat with activities, bustling local markets, historical sites, the wonderful landscape of the midi-Pyrenees for cycling and walking. Alet-les-Bains, Aude and in the L’Occitaine region is a small village steeped in history with a medieval Abbaye and Cathedral, thermal mineral springs found by the Romans 2000 years ago, is situated on the river Aude with local activities including canoeing, and is short distance from the wine making region of Limoux, Renne le Chateaux, and the historic town of Carcassonne.

For centuries, under the leadership of the monks of the Abbey of Notre-Dame d´Aleth, the many wine-growing families of the city of Alet les Bains have produced delicious red and white wines known as “tranquilles” or still wines.

Notre Dame Abbey Cathedral - In the very heart of the medieval city of Alet, this Cathedral is a major monument, its archaic, Romanesque and Gothic origins are visible to lovers of beautiful stonework as well as to simple visitors. Episcopal Palace - Set in the medieval village of Alet les Bains, between the Aude river and the ruins of the Abbey, the Old Episcopal Palace welcomes you from April to October.

The Villa is situated on the Route de Saint Salvayre, a single track road that climbs to Saint Salvayre and a walk of 6km to reach the point of Saint Salvayre at 600m. The landscape and views from the trail are breathtaking. There are many other circular trails around Alet les Bains with the most local circular trail of 5km. The nearest registered trail is The Cathar Trail (GR367) where you can dip in and take time to walk stretches of the 250km trail. The various ancient thermal springs in the historical city of Alet-les-Bains are a testimony to this. Other thermal towns in the surrounding area such as in Rennes-les-Bains and Campagne-les Bains were also well-known for their natural hot-springs.
